The journal covers areas including molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, genomics, gene expression, cellular signaling, molecular mechanisms of disease, protein and nucleic acid biology, cell development, cellular interactions, and related areas of biotechnology and biomedical research.

The journal welcomes all types of scholarly manuscripts relevant to its scientific scope, including original research, review articles, systematic reviews, case reports where appropriate, methodological studies, brief reports, and other scientifically valuable contributions. Although nCoV shares great genetic similarity with its relatives, it possesses specific structural components that render it peculiar in replication, pathogenicity, and response to drugs.
